What is demerger?

Demerger refers to the remodelling of companies, where certain sections of the business are cut off into different companies altogether. These businesses can now be sold off, divested or can run as a single company. This helps large corporate organisations to make splits in their business divisions or brands to run them individually for better efficiency, sell them off to raise fresh capital for further expansion or save themselves from a takeover.
